Byeokje Galbi

벽제갈비 Beokje Galbi
Location: Yangjae-daero 71-gil, Songpa-gu, Seoul
Date of Visit: 16th October 2010
>> I wanted to have a good old fashioned Korean barbeque as I was visiting Seoul in the late stages of autumn in 2010, where the cold wind are so darn cold that sends chills down my spine. That's my priority one food to have in Seoul.
I get Beokje Galbi! Uncle Roh, a family friend of my father's, whom they made acquaintance a long time ago when my dad was travelling to Korea for work. Before we arrive to Seoul, he was making preparations for us, requesting us to tell him what we wanted to have while we are in town. The first thing that crosses my mind would be Korean Barbeque. It's a must have and that's what I get on the second night in Seoul.
According to Uncle Roh, this place is famous for its barbeque and it's so hard to get a place here that you need to place an advanced booking for a week. No kidding! But who wouldn't want to be seated near a charcoal fireplace, watching the meat sizzles over the grill and have a great barbeque over a bottle of beer when winter is just around the corner? I'd say we do this every night if it's possible!
The reason why this place is so famous is because it's listed three times on the ever-popular Wall Street Journal's ‘Asia’s Best 5 Restaurants. Uncle Roh told us that it's a sad case that we can't consume beef as the place is famous for its beef barbeque. We're there to enjoy pork barbeque that is lathered with it's secret sauce that only those who worked in the kitchen knows its receipe.
We ordered like 5 portions of meat that night that goes very well with Cass Beer. The meat is so tender and juicy and not to forget the secret sauce that makes the magic for every piece of meat that's being placed into the mouth, it's just that damn good! To top things off, we also ordered a bowl of hot soba noodles each. I was in cloud 9 that night. As I'm writing this, I salivated and wishing that I'm having this tonight for dinner.
